Welcome

Welcome to the Ohio Council of County Officials newly created website.  Our goal is to better inform the citizens of our great state about county government. We hope you find it useful as well as informative.

The members of this organization consist of the statewide associations of elected county officials representing Auditors, Clerks of the Court of Common Pleas, Commissioners, Coroners, Engineers, Judges of the Court of Common Pleas as selected by the Ohio Judicial Conference, Prosecuting Attorneys, Recorders, Sheriffs and Treasurers.

The purpose of the organization is to unite in a joint effort the various associations representing county elected officials and judges to promote sound, efficient, and fiscally responsible governance, while maintaining sufficient checks and balances within the county government structure; to serve as a forum where the various associations can discuss issues of mutual concern and attempt to resolve any differences of opinion; to advocate in the General Assembly for legislative outcomes that are beneficial to county government; and, to promote a greater understanding by the citizens of Ohio of the important role county government serves.

July Monthly Meeting

Speaker: Attorney General Dave Yost

CCAO Offices: 209 E. State Street, Columbus

Nearly 50 years after landmark legislation known as “HB920” became law, the issue of property taxes remains one of the most controversial topics facing the state of Ohio and local governments. Today, citizens and lawmakers alike are offering competing versions of how Ohio’s property tax law should be changed – or eliminated, with each proposal creating significant yet different impacts on local governments. As a former county official – both prosecutor and auditor, and as the former state auditor, Attorney General Dave Yost has a unique perspective on this topic and will share his insights on it and other issues facing our state.
